How we can help

Heritage and Family

Advice on inheritance and family law creates security and ensures a clear framework for life's most important decisions.

Family is typically the closest and most intimate relationship we have. Unfortunately, the love we have for our partner, children, parents and siblings doesn’t always guarantee that everything will run smoothly.

Just as two business partners can disagree about the running of a business or the direction it should take, major – and sometimes insurmountable – disagreements can also arise in families. We see this most often in divorce and inheritance cases.

Things come to a head and the parties involved end up standing their ground. If mediation and common sense can’t resolve the issues, the law must be brought in – as the rational counterpart to the hurt feelings and dashed expectations. Once the lines have been drawn so sharply that it has become difficult or impossible for the parties to talk sensibly, an experienced lawyer can help with the necessary advice and – perhaps – get the dialog back on track, or assist you if this is one of the cases that ends up in court. Attorney Charlotte Pedersen is trained as a mediator and thus possesses both the practical and theoretical basis for conflict resolution.

We always recommend that conflicts of the above nature are resolved amicably – and preferably prevented with due diligence in the form of, for example, a prenuptial agreement and/or a will. Because even though it’s not exactly the most exciting topic to bring up in connection with a marriage, for example, it’s a decision that is best made well in advance, while relations are good.

We have the experience to create an overview and take into account the many contingencies that need to be considered when drawing up prenuptial agreements, wills, property division agreements, etc.

The purpose of our advice is to provide you with clear guidelines and a written, registered set of rules that can prevent or settle disputes and doubts in connection with, for example, division of property after a marriage or the death of a family member.

Generational change

If you’re planning and implementing a succession in your company, it is a prerequisite for a successful succession that careful consideration is given to family and inheritance law issues.

We have extensive experience in advising on generational succession and in determining whether it is necessary to draw up a marriage contract and will for a successful succession.
